BIC, in partnership with educators and fire safety experts, including Fireproof Children, also developed the award winning play safe! be safe! ® preschool fire safety training program. In 1997, play safe! be safe! ® received the Best Curriculum Award from Early Childhood News, a publication of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. In that same year, BIC and Fireproof Children also received the Rolf H. Jensen Partners in Public Education Award from the National Fire Protection Association. Since the inception of the program, BIC has distributed more than 110,000 play safe! be safe!® kits, participated in dozens of national safety and fire service conferences, and sponsored over 175 training workshops across North America for teachers, day care providers, fire safety educators and other professionals who work with children.

About Robert Cole Ph.D, President of Fireproof Children:
Robert Cole, Ph.D is the president of Fireproof Children and one of the nation’s leading experts in fire safety education. He is continually requested as a trainer/speaker throughout North America regarding preschool fire safety education and community intervention for juvenile firesetting. He is also an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Bob has received two 3-year research grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study children’s unintentional injury. He is a co-author of Juvenile Firesetting: A Community Guide to Prevention and Intervention, and the author or co-author of numerous articles on children and fire for Fire Chief, Firehouse, Children and Families, Young Children and other national journals.
